Whats in a first visit? 

Your appointment may include the following:

  • A review of your medical and dental history

  • Addressing any individual concerns you may have about your mouth, for example: bad breath, bleeding and discomfort of any teeth

  • Radiographs or x-rays to check for decay, existing fillings or other dental issues that can’t be seen

  • A comprehensive evaluation of your oral tissue, teeth and gums including a screening for oral cancer

  • An explanation of what periodontal disease is, how it affects your teeth and gums and advice on preventing it in the future

  • If your periodontal (gum) health is not ideal, recommendations of deeper scaling and root planing may be advised in order to achieve ultimate periodontal health

  • Personal instruction to show you how to care for your teeth and gums 

  • A professional scaling and polishing of the teeth above and below the gum line to remove plaque, calculus and stains

  • Application of fluoride to help prevent future decay

  • Recommendations for your personal oral hygiene program and advice on scheduling your next routine maintenance appointment to prevent any future dental disease

  • A comprehensive dental exam from the dentist collaborating with the dental hygienists 

  • Fissure sealants, tooth whitening and impressions are also services provided by an oral therapist
